Lit theatre stage and audience

2026 repertory · East London

Live work
with a pulse.

New writing, revived texts and devised performance built in public-facing rehearsal rooms, then tested where theatre matters: in front of people.

About / company statement

Theatre is rehearsal made accountable by an audience.

Threadline is a fictional producing theatre focused on contemporary text, performance and adaptation. We commission slowly, rehearse visibly and keep artists attached long enough to learn from the work after opening night.

Our repertory balances new writing, rediscovered texts and devised pieces. The company treats access, education and post-show conversation as production design problems rather than add-ons.

Offerings / what we make

A repertory needs contrast to mean anything.

01

New writing

Commissioned plays, staged development and first productions with writers present through rehearsal.

02

Revivals

Neglected or newly relevant texts returned to the room with contemporary dramaturgy rather than museum reverence.

03

Devised work

Ensemble-led performance built from research, movement, testimony and live composition.

04

Learning & access

Schools matinees, workshops, relaxed performances and practical resources tied to specific productions.

Process / rehearsal score

The room changes the script, then the audience changes the room.

  1. Week 01

    Table

Text, research, design questions and the assumptions everyone brought in.

  2. Week 02

    Floor

Block, test rhythm, expose what the page cannot solve alone.

  3. Week 03

    Pressure

Run longer sequences, invite observers and identify where attention drops.

  4. Week 04

    Technical

Light, sound, costume and scene changes become part of performance rather than decoration.

  5. Previews

    Audience

Preview responses inform targeted changes; opening night ends rewriting, not learning.

Work / current productions

Three rooms, three kinds of tension.

Detail from inside the process.

Notebook 12

What a preview audience is for

Previews work when the team knows which questions are still open and which are no longer negotiable.

Conversation 08

Designing captions with the production

Why access works better when caption position, timing and visual hierarchy enter the room before technical week.

Essay 21

A revival should justify its return

The difference between staging a classic because it is known and staging it because it has become newly legible.

FAQ / before the house opens

Useful answers, no stage whisper.

Do performances start on time?

Yes. Late seating depends on the production and may not be possible until an interval or designated entry point. Arrival guidance is sent with every ticket.

Are productions accessible?

Each production page lists step-free access, captioned, audio-described and relaxed performances where available. Our box office can advise on specific seating needs.

Can schools attend rehearsals?

Selected open rehearsals and post-show workshops are available to schools and tertiary groups through the learning programme.

How are new writers selected?

We combine commissions, open calls and invited development. Every submission window publishes scope, fee, timeline and decision date before applications open.
