About / school model

For adults whose day is already full.

Second Shift is a fictional vocational school for people who cannot pause work to retrain. Timetables start after the normal shift, theory is compressed, and every practical block produces visible evidence.

Attendance, competence and safety are recorded separately. That means learners know whether they merely showed up, completed the task, or demonstrated the standard under observation.

Workshop brief

Useful work leaves a trail.

Learners submit a drawing, job plan, risk check, finished artefact and inspection sheet. Employers can see the process, not only a certificate.

Recent briefs: switchboard fault board · welded trolley · site handover pack · laser-cut enclosure.

FAQ / before enrolment

Questions worth asking before 18:00.

Do I need prior trade experience?

Not for foundation programmes. Advanced workshop blocks list prerequisites clearly and we verify them before enrolment.

Can I study while working full time?

That is the model. Most contact sessions begin after 18:00, with Saturday practical assessments scheduled in advance.

Are the certificates accredited?

Second Shift is fictional, but this concept distinguishes internal completion records from any external statutory credential and never implies equivalence.

What equipment must I bring?

Core tools and workshop PPE are supplied for class. Personal safety footwear is required and a bursary stock is available when cost is a barrier.

Contact / enrolment

Keep the day job. Change what comes next.

Tell us which programme, your current experience and the evenings you can attend. An admissions tutor replies with the correct entry point rather than selling the longest course.
