About / cooperative ownership

A bank account should not require a finance degree to understand.

Commonwealth Mutual is a fictional community credit union serving workers, families and small enterprises. Deposits fund member lending, and members elect the board that governs risk, service and surplus allocation.

We show the rate, the fee and the repayment in the same place. Cooperative does not mean careless lending; it means the institution is accountable to the people whose money makes the institution possible.

NOTICE 01

APR versus interest rate

NOTICE 02

Emergency fund before investing

The first useful return may be avoiding expensive debt when the car, geyser or school bill arrives.

NOTICE 03

What hardship assistance can change

Term, payment date and temporary relief can help, but each option affects total repayment differently.

FAQ / before you join

Know the rules before the account number.

Who owns the credit union?

Members do. This fictional concept gives each eligible member one vote regardless of deposit size. Surplus is retained for resilience, service improvement and member benefit rather than external shareholders.

How are loan rates decided?

Rates reflect funding cost, credit risk, operating cost and the cooperative margin needed to remain safe. We publish representative examples so members can compare total repayment before applying.

What happens if I miss a payment?

Contact comes before collections. The fictional hardship process reviews income changes, temporary arrangements and suitable referrals before escalation, while still protecting member deposits and lending discipline.

Can a small business join?

Yes, where the owner or entity meets the field-of-membership rules. Business lending is assessed separately from personal borrowing and requires current trading information.
