Control station PXS-08933°55'31.2\"S 18°25'21.8\"E

Fictional land-survey and geospatial practice for property, infrastructure and complex sites where every measurement needs a declared reference.

Measure what must hold.

About / datum before drawing

A survey is useful only when someone else can trust where it came from.

Parallax begins by establishing control, checking supplied information and defining what the final drawing or dataset must be able to prove. Field speed never outranks traceability.

We distinguish observed, calculated, supplied and inferred information on every deliverable. Where certainty has limits, those limits travel with the data rather than disappearing in a clean CAD file.

Services / survey register

S-01

Boundary & cadastral

Beacon recovery, boundary definition, subdivision support and diagram-ready survey records.

S-02

Engineering control

Construction set-out, control networks, deformation checks and as-built verification tied to declared datums.

S-03

Topographic capture

Ground features, utilities, levels and terrain models prepared for design teams and planning approvals.

S-04

Reality & GIS

GNSS, total-station and field observations reconciled into map-ready spatial datasets with metadata.

Process / closed traverse

Every field day has a return path.

01

Recon

Review title, design files, access and existing survey marks before equipment leaves the office.

02

Control

Occupy and check known or newly established control. Redundancy is designed into the observation plan.

03

Observe

Capture only what the brief requires, but record enough surrounding evidence to explain the measurement later.

04

Close

Run closure checks, reconcile field notes, process observations and issue the deliverable with datum and accuracy notes.

Projects / field records

Three briefs. Three definitions of “accurate enough”.

P-214 / Rail yard control

A 1.8 km engineering control network for staged track works. Repeat occupations isolated one unstable monument before set-out began.

P-227 / Hillside subdivision

Boundary recovery and contour model across steep residential land. Vegetation-limited sight lines were supplemented with GNSS and clearly marked confidence notes.

P-231 / Warehouse as-built

Final slab, columns, drainage and external works captured against construction control before handover to the design team.

Insights / fieldbook extracts

A coordinate without a datum is a rumour

The same numeric point can describe different real-world positions under different reference systems. Declare it every time.

More points do not guarantee a better surface

Breaklines, ridges, kerbs and drainage edges often matter more than dense random observations when terrain must inform design.

As-built does not mean “close enough”

The value of an as-built survey is comparison against intent. Record the tolerance question before deciding how precisely to observe.

FAQ / uncertainty notes

Can you quote from an address only?+

Sometimes, but a defensible fee usually needs the survey purpose, approximate extent, access conditions and available title or design information.

Do you use drones?+

Where they improve the brief. Aerial capture is one observation method, not a replacement for survey control, ground truth or professional judgement.

Can you confirm a neighbour's boundary from a fence?+

No. Physical occupation can be evidence, but legal boundary position requires the relevant survey records and professional cadastral process.

What do we receive?+

Deliverables are agreed before fieldwork and may include signed diagrams, CAD, PDF survey plans, coordinate schedules, surfaces or GIS datasets with metadata.

Contact / survey instruction

Start with the question the drawing must answer.

Send the site, required deliverable, project stage, known datum/control and the decision that depends on the survey.
