About

The operating idea

Lane Nine is a fictional para-athletics performance centre supporting wheelchair racing, ambulant sprint, throws and endurance athletes. Training, equipment fit, recovery and competition logistics are planned around the individual impairment profile without reducing the athlete to it.

This identity is organised around the training block, because the organisation becomes credible when the public can follow the same unit practitioners use internally.

The record is not decorative: session load, split times, equipment setup, pain response and competition objective. That evidence changes how work is scoped, handed over and remembered.

Work register

Three entries from the operating archive

119.1

T54 800 m build

A twelve-week block paired chair-position changes with race-pace intervals and shoulder-load monitoring before national trials.

119.2

Ambulant sprint return

A post-surgery athlete rebuilt acceleration volume through shorter high-quality exposures rather than generic conditioning.

119.3

Throws chair platform

Coach and fabricator revised anchor geometry after video showed trunk position changing under maximal effort.

Capabilities

Built around each training block

  1. 01

    Sprint & endurance coaching

Sprint & endurance coaching is scoped through the training block, with session load, split times, equipment setup, pain response and competition objective. The boundary, exclusions and handover evidence are stated before work begins.

  2. 02

    Racing-chair fit

Racing-chair fit is scoped through the training block, with session load, split times, equipment setup, pain response and competition objective. Capacity, constraints and decision ownership stay visible from intake to closeout.

  3. 03

    Strength & conditioning

Strength & conditioning is scoped through the training block, with session load, split times, equipment setup, pain response and competition objective. The boundary, exclusions and handover evidence are stated before work begins.

  4. 04

    Competition planning

Competition planning is scoped through the training block, with session load, split times, equipment setup, pain response and competition objective. Capacity, constraints and decision ownership stay visible from intake to closeout.

Process

A sequence with named gates

  1. Gate 1

    Profile the athlete

Profile the athlete is the entry control point for a training block. The team records session load, split times, equipment setup, pain response and competition objective so the next decision is made from an explicit state, not memory or assumption.

  2. Gate 2

    Set equipment baselines

Set equipment baselines is the next control point for a training block. The team records session load, split times, equipment setup, pain response and competition objective so the next decision is made from an explicit state, not memory or assumption.

  3. Gate 3

    Train the event demands

Train the event demands is the next control point for a training block. The team records session load, split times, equipment setup, pain response and competition objective so the next decision is made from an explicit state, not memory or assumption.

  4. Gate 4

    Review with measured splits

Review with measured splits is the next control point for a training block. The team records session load, split times, equipment setup, pain response and competition objective so the next decision is made from an explicit state, not memory or assumption.

Three arguments worth slowing down for

A racing chair is part of the performance system

Before you say yes.

Q01

Do I need to be an elite athlete?

No. Lane Nine works from development to high performance, with goals and support scaled to the athlete's competition level.

Q02

Can you classify athletes?
